John Arthur Annibel was convicted of the brutal 1998 rape and murder of Deborah Sloan, 42, of Laytonville, California (in Mendocino County).
He is also implicated in the death Andrea Edra Laderoute. Laderoute was Annibel's girlfriend when she disappeared from her home in Fortuna in 1980. Annibel had initially reported the 21 year-old woman as missing. Her skull, identified by the Humboldt County coroner’s office, was found on August 9, 2002 on property belonging to the Pacific Lumber Company, where Annibel had worked for 13 years.
Sherry Lynn Smith, 15, was last seen in 1976. Her body was found on the property where Annibel lived near Myers Flat. Smith had been raped and strangled. Annibel was never charged in the case.
It is believed Annibel may have many other victims.
